These cool winter months can give us the blues. Getting a tan in winter isn’t easy, so we feel sun deprived. If you’re feeling dull, like I am, there’s a 5-minute winter make up solution for feeling fabulous: a little sun-kissed hue on your face goes a long way for a quick pick-me-up. I’m serious – get a load of some of the best makeup that takes you from pale to so-hot-people-forget-to-exhale!
You’ll be seeing some top-brand names listed, but don’t start frowning because you think you can’t afford them! Start smiling when you use FragranceNet Canada coupons for 15% off your order PLUS free shipping when you spend $70 or more. Here we go…
The Blank Canvas
Every gorgeous-looking face starts off with a foundation to even out skin tone. Depending on your skin type, you can get winter make up for oily, dry or combination skin. Here’s one of my favourite foundations available at FragranceNet:
Clinique Perfectly Real – I love this foundation because it’s great for all skin types. It’s oil-free, lightweight, glides on smoothly, and lasts all day for brilliant winter makeup looks! Plus, it has micro-mirrored technology for a smooth, flawless finish. Shades range from fair skin to darker skin.
Highlighting, Bronzing & Blushing
By highlighting and bronzing your face, you’re contouring it to get that supermodel finish while getting a tan in the winter! Better yet, you’re saving your skin from fake ‘n’ bake which can cause you to wrinkle prematurely – eek!
Where you put the bronzer and highlighter is key to getting a sun-kissed glow. Here are some products available at FragranceNet and my tips on how to use them:
Stila Sun Bronzing Powder – Swirl your brush around and apply it
under your cheekbones plus lightly across your forehead and chin. When the brush has no more left, smooth it all over face to blend. The shimmer captures the light for an angelic glow!
Yves Saint Laurent Blush Pink Delight – This variation blush combines shades of pink, beige and bronze that adapt to your skin tone.
Apply this to the apples of your cheeks towards your upper ear. It leaves a gorgeous smooth finish that gives a fresh pop to face.
Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc - Lightly add some shimmer to the inner corners of your eyes and at your brow bone. Then use a fan brush
to apply powder at the apples of your cheeks, the bridge of your nose and at your temples towards your forehead.
Just like that, from any angle you look like a sun-kissed goddess. Apply your eye makeup and lip gloss to finish off the look and you’re good to go!
So, it looks Old Man Winter is going to stay a while longer. To some of us who enjoy winter sports, this is great news. But for those who miss the rays of sunshine, a little pick-me-up is needed, wouldn’t you say? Well, you’ve come to the right place!

Hand Cream
I wash my hands a lot more during the winter because it’s flu season. Of
course, this makes my hands extremely dry and chapped. So, what are the best winter moisturizers? This is my top pick:
Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream
This dermatologist-recommended hand cream is fragrance free and offers effective relief for chapped hands. A tiny amount provides hydration, my skin absorbs it quickly, and no greasy film is left behind. At night, I recommend spreading a thicker amount over hands and wearing cotton gloves for maximum absorption.
Face Cream
You’ve most likely heard the buzz about Burt’s Bees skincare products.
They keep skin balanced and moisturized all day. Also, a gentler moisturizer should always be used for your face. That’s why I stick to the gentle products of Burt’s Bees:
Burt’s Bees Beeswax Moisturizing Cream for Face
This cream contains no mineral oil or synthetic dyes and it’s great for all skin types. It’s enriched with botanicals and vitamins that your skin tends to lack during these cold months. Use it before bed and in the morning. It’s great to wear under foundation and makeup because it’s lightweight and makes application smoother.
Body Cream
I notice that my skin gets so itchy during the winter. That’s a sure sign that
skin’s in serious need of hydration. And I’ve got the perfect remedy:
L’OCCITANE Shea Ultra Rich Body Cream
This rich cream keeps your body hydrated for a full 24 hours. For amazing results, use a gentle exfoliating sponge in the bath or shower. This rids your body of any dry skin and opens up pores for the best absorption.

There is no better pick-me-up than finding a dress that hugs you in all the right places. Well, have I got a remedy for you! Use free 30% off site-wide eDressMe Canada coupons for discount evening dresses and gowns by designer names. But hurry – coupons expire by January 14th!
Deep Emerald Evening Gown by Faviana Couture
This is my favourite of designer discount dresses for evening wear. The plunging V offers a sexy touch, while an A-line bottom keeps things classy as it graces the floor with softness. And the part I love most: an empire waist with ruching makes the mid section look inches smaller (I won’t have to deprive myself of carbs for two weeks!).
Red Cascade Dress by ABS Allen Schwartz
When it comes to finding cocktail dresses on sale, I like one that’s playful and classy at the same time. And that dress, my friends, is the Red Cascade! I love the way the soft circle neckline sits right under the collar bone. And the ruffle cascade on the left shoulder brings an elegant touch. Pick up this sassy number now since Valentine’s Day is around the corner – the rich red colour is completely fitting!
Office Dress by Alberto Makali
Because it looks so chic and smart, this is the number I’d wear if I were about to ask for a raise. The high-waist skirt makes gams look super long and takes in the tummy. And the 3/4 sleeve top with buttoned ruffle front adds a vintage flair that I love. All in all, this comfortable and feminine piece will be a smart addition to your work wardrobe.
Mineral Colour Belted Dress by Kate
I love a full-time dress that works all seasons! This dress will go with my flip flops in the summer, leggings and a cardi in the fall, and my knee-high boots with a cute hat in the winter! Now if that’s not maximizing my wardrobe, I don’t what is!

I love the way stockings look hanging on a chimney mantle. And seeing them
stuffed and waiting on Christmas morning still fills me with childlike excitement. One year I decided to be the stocking stuffer – it’s the year that I realized how expensive it can be when you have a few stockings to stuff! So, I came up with some ideas for dirt cheap stocking stuffers that get everyone smiling…even your wallet!
Shop at your local dollar store
Dollarama has tons of dollar stocking stuffers for everyone on your list. Check out the hair accessory aisle for fun hair clips, hair ties and clip-on hair extensions for teens.
Then head over to stationery and book section. Discover crayons and books for kids plus fun Sudoku or Word Search books for those who love good brain teasers.
Don’t forget the extensive candy aisle! Fill your buggy with delicious
stocking stuffers for under 10 dollars. From lollypops to mints, chocolates to nuts and cookies to dried fruit, you’ll find it all for less!
Keep the samples!
When you shop for perfumes for Mom, cosmetics for Sis or cologne for Dad at big department stores like The Bay, you usually get free gifts on your purchase when you spend over a certain amount. These samples or free gifts are perfect for dirt cheap stocking stuffers…they’re FREE!
Think travel-sized
Anytime I’m going on vacation, I stock up on travel-sized shampoos, conditioners and more. I also realized, when thinking about inexpensive stocker stuffers, that these mini items are the perfect fit!
Since the winter days leave skin chapped, be sure to pick up mini lotions that they can carry in their bag or purse plus lip balms to protect their
smackers from crisp winds.
You can find these all items for less in the Pharmacy section at Wal-Mart or at your local drugstore like Shoppers Drug Mart.
Filling stockings to the rim with an abundance of fun items is a cinch. And when you’ve got great ideas for dollar stocking stuffers like these under your sleeve, you can go all out while sticking to budget!
Put the ‘happy’ in Happy Holidays by saving on stocking stuffers under 10 dollars while seeing the joy on everyone’s face when they dig through them!
Hello, precious gems
I’m a bit cranky today. Why? Because it’s already so cold and I’m not ready! Our summer wasn’t the greatest, and now it’s like we skipped fall and are headed for winter. My skin is already getting dry. Hence I thought it would be a good idea to let you know about my homemade mask for dry skin a little earlier.
Out of all the homemade facial masks for dry skin that I’ve tried, it’s my favourite! It costs under $5 to make, it smells soooo good, and the results are nothing short of amazing. So, let’s get to it shall we?
What You Need
What to Do
Cut apricots in half and take the pit out. Boil them in a pot, strain and toss into a bowl. With a fork, mash the apricots into a paste. Add the oils in and mix. The paste by now should be warm; this is the best time to apply it.
On a clean face, spread the homemade facial mask out evenly. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and wipe off with a warm towel. Put on your favourite facial cream.
Results
You’ll love how soft, supple and smooth your face feels after applying this homemade mask for dry skin. Your complexion will be slightly pink, like you just went for a brisk run, as you’ve stimulated blood to the surface.
Use this mask twice a week, especially during the cold months to promote moisture and heal dry skin.
