Your Guide to Price Matching in Canada

[ 2 ] April 4, 2012 |

Thrifty shoppers clip coupons and keep their eyes open for sales, but there are still those who aren’t aware that many Canadian stores and merchants have a price matching policy! It’s one of the more clever ways you can save money on your purchases.

Want to get started? We’ve got answers for all your questions…

What Is Price Matching?

If a store has a price adjustment policy in place, that means that the price of a product you buy can be lowered to match the sale price of that same product. The time allowed between the original purchase and sale varies between companies. Some stores will even match a product’s lower price from a competing company if you show them a dated flyer or receipt.

Not every price adjustment policy is the same. Be sure to give the business or store a call to find out their exact terms and conditions.

Why Do Companies Price Match?

Quite simply, it’s because of you! Stores can’t stay in business without their customers, after all, so they put a price adjustment policy in place to create new business and keep existing shoppers happy.

How Can I Price Match Online?

If you want to cut out the middleman and go straight to a product’s best price, there are several ways you can do so from your computer. Price comparison sites like PriceGrabber and Shopbot scope out online retailers across the web to find the greatest value for whatever you desire.

Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera users should definitely check out the superb add-on InvisibleHand. When you’re browsing one of their supported retailers, you’ll get a little notification if InvisibleHand finds a cheaper price elsewhere. Quite handy, no pun intended.

  1. Great info! Pricegrabber is an excellent site for comparing prices of electronics across the retail stores. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a site that automatically compared the price of groceries each week? It would make price matching so much easier!

      Hi Loise!

That would be so much easier! I was curious, so I looked around. I couldn’t find any Canadian sites that compare grocery prices. Hmmm!

Thanks for the comment! Let us know if you ever come across any sites like that. We’ll do the same. :)
