Canada Day is quickly approaching – do you know where you’ll be? If your plans are still up in the air, check out these Canada Day Celebrations in Toronto, Ottawa and even across the pond…plus how to enjoy the day for less.
Whether you’re looking to do it up style for the big 1-4-4 or just lay low, you may want to check out these hotspots.
Tragically Hip at Downsview Park (Toronto, Ontario)
Spending Canada Day in Toronto? Ontario’s capital is pulling out the true Canadiana of rock for this one. Headliners Tragically Hip (along with Weezer, Hey Rosetta! and Broken Social Scene) are sure to bring out the red and white in everyone. It doesn’t get more rock than these Kingston natives, and there’s something so Canuck about an outdoor concert. Tickets went on sale way back when, but you can still snag a few if you head to Razorgator.com.
The Trews + Fireworks (Halifax, NS)
Keeping with the Canadian rock vibe, let’s head east to Halifax. A pretty little city in itself, Halifax is throwing a party complete with rock outfit The Trews and a grand fireworks show. Halifax offers up plenty of activities for the whole family, and if you find deals at places like Family Getaway, the price won’t leave you frowning from the first day.
Take It Slow at Jericho Beach (Vancouver, BC)
As much as some like excitement, others like to slow down and enjoy the day in peace. If the sound of waves and building a few sandcastles is more your pace, then head to Jericho Beach in Vancouver, BC. This particular beach encourages picnics and BBQs, so make sure you bring the grill and enough burgers for the whole crew. Not only is a picnic fun, but it’s cheaper than taking the family to a restaurant.
Royal Treat in the Capital (Ottawa, ON)
The hype surrounding the royal wedding is slowly starting to subside, but if you still haven’t gotten enough of all the pomp and circumstance, you may want to head to Ottawa for their Canada Day celebrations. The Prince and new Duchess of Cambridge will be on hand watching as well, taking in a performance from Great Big Sea and a Fireworks extravaganza designed to wow royalty.
Orbitz still has rooms available in the capital, and check online coupon sites for flight and room deals.
Someone Else’s Party (Trafalgar Square, London, UK)
Well, look at that! Someone else is throwing us a party, too! If you’re living overseas and want a taste of home, or if you want to celebrate somewhere new, London, England is throwing their own party complete with – be still my heart – hockey games.
Keep in mind it’s high season, so you’ll be paying prime price for flights, although there are always deals to be had if you check Expedia or Orbitz including flights for around $900+ tax.
Remember to check online coupon sites for deals on hotels, flights and tickets. And no matter where you decide to sing Oh Canada this July 1st, make sure you spend it with those you love, and stop to take a moment and feel proud you get to live in such an amazing country.
