Top 10 Viral Videos of 2010

[ 0 ] December 29, 2010

Oh, viral videos. Without them, what would we possibly email our coworkers about? We here at FabulousSavings love a good meme, and 2010 has been an especially memorable year for them. From dancing dogs to passionate lovers of rainbows, there’s something for everyone in our list of 2010′s top 10 viral videos:

1. Bed Intruder Song

The original interview containing a man’s whip-smart rant about his sister’s near-assault was priceless and instantly quotable, but it wasn’t until an auto-tuned version hit the web that Antoine Dodson became a bona fide superstar. Admit it: you have every word memorized.

2. Double Rainbow

“What does it mean?!” Nobody knows, Double Rainbow Guy. But it’s beautiful.

3. Old Spice – The Man Your Man Could Smell Like

Old Spice’s non-sequitur-filled celebration of manhood (all in the guise of a commercial!) took the internet by storm and spawned a number of spoofs and other memes. My favourite is this parody with Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character from Inception.

4. OK Go – This Too Shall Pass

You might know them as the “treadmill guys”, but this outlandish indie-pop group truly outdid themselves with a music video that can only be described as 3 minutes and 54 seconds of Rube Goldbergian madness.

5. Greyson Chance – Paparazzi

This candid video of 11-year-old Greyson singing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” is impressive, but the real stars are the all-female audience, who appear to be either incredibly dazzled or incredibly bored. Make up your mind, ladies!

6. Chat Roulette Funny Piano Improv

Remember Chat Roulette? It was popular for about four minutes, but one mystery piano man (later revealed to be musician Ben Folds) took the medium and ran with it.

7. Hot Salsa Dog

If this insanely popular dancing doggy doesn’t put a smile on your face, please Google your nearest optometrist.

8. iamamiwhoami – O

The iamamiwhoami media project is difficult to explain, mostly because nobody has any idea what it’s about. What began as a series of creepy vignettes about a forest-dwelling  mystery woman blossomed into a collection of experimental/electronic music videos. Among them, O is the most memorable (and catchy).

9. Best Cry Ever

Is this clip from A&E’s Intervention sad or hilarious? Or a strange combination of the two? Considering it’s been viewed 12 million times and spawned countless spoofs (including an auto-tuned version modeled after Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You), most people would say it’s the latter.

10. Filmography 2010

The last and newest viral video is a pretty epic montage of this year’s theatrically released movies. Clips from critical darlings like The Social Network and Black Swan are edited in with flops like Legion and Robin Hood, making for an impressive, energetic and equal-opportunity celebration of cinema. If you’re a movie fan, it’s a must-watch.

What was your favourite viral video this year? Run and tell us, homeboy.

Free Sample of Acqua di Giorgio by Armani

[ 0 ] December 29, 2010

Looking for a new scent? It’s fun to switch things up sometimes. Giorgio Armani has come out with a new scent that sounds juicy and invigorating.

It’s main ingredient? Limone primo fiore femminelle – that is, the first spring blossom of lemon flowers. They’re picked from Calabria, Italy at the very beginning of Spring. Accompanying the watery lemon scent are mint, cedar and brown sugar for a truly delicious blend.

Since this perfume seems rejuvenating, I think it’s one I’d love to spray on after a brisk morning shower. Would you like to try some? Click here to get your free sample!

4 Easy New Years Eve Make Up Looks

[ 0 ] December 28, 2010

Getting all dolled up for New Year’s Eve? If you’ve got your outfit, shoes and accessories to match, all that’s left is to figure out how to do your New Years Eve party makeup. Your makeup will complete your whole getup while exuding the overall look you want to go for: glamorous, flirty, sultry, etc.

If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at some celebrity makeup looks to mimic and enjoy some holiday makeup tips. We’ve chosen some of our favourites:

Sultry Smokey Eyes

Smokey eyes create the sultry look, perfect eye makeup for New Year’s Eve. Your gems look heavier, giving them the sexy “bedroom” feel. It’s an alluring look that can be created with numerous colours. Jennifer Lopez uses browns and golds – a great combo for brown eyes. Smokey eyes can be a little tricky to do; check out xteeener’s Sexy Smokey Eyes w/ Warm Touches video on YouTube if you need a hand.

Glamorously Golden

Charlize Theron is known for her grace and elegance. Her look in this photo has hints of gold in the eye shadow, lips and highlights. This is perfect if you want to achieve a glamorous and sophisticated look. At the crease of your eye, use a bronze colour to accent the gold; it makes your eyes look more lifted and bigger, like Charlize’s.

Nearly Nude

Aiming for a nearly nude look? This is perfect if you usually don’t wear a lot of cosmetics or if your dress is really extravagant, which requires more subdued makeup. In this picture, Gwyneth looks healthy, radiant and youthful. To achieve this natural look, you need to start off with a flawless canvas. Concentrate a lot on your concealer, foundation and highlighting application for a smooth finish. Then move on to thin black/brown eyeliner, mascara, blush and gloss.

Redlicious Puckers

This look is show stopping! It’s actually pretty easy, too, as you’re not spending a lot of time on your eyes (just a bit of liner on your upper and lower lash lines and mascara). To ensure you choose the right tone of red for your lipstick, you need to figure out what undertone you are: pink or yellow. Watch jcrawjc’s YouTube video: How to Choose Undertone of Skin and Red Lipstick Colour. He starts off with helping you determine if your skin tone is warm or cool using pink and yellow paper, then moves on to explain which reds work best with your tone!

So, what look will you go with for New Year’s?

The Regifting Etiquette Guide

[ 0 ] December 27, 2010

It’s that time of the year again! No, not the season of merriment, family togetherness and joy – it’s regifting time. The tradition of receiving a present and passing it along to someone else is old, yet not everyone seems to know how to regift politely.

If you want to educate yourself, just read this simple regifting etiquette guide and make your holidays faux-pas-free:

The Gift Must Be New

Did you open it, use it and put it back in the box? Gross. It’s yours now, so deal with it. And don’t even think of taping back up the wrapping paper it came in.

Don’t Tell Them It’s Regifted

That’s just rude. It’s especially rude to go into detail about how you got the present. How would you feel if you unwrapped a box of dust-covered chocolates, only for the gift giver to exclaim “You like? Lucy gave them to me right before our divorce.”

Presents to Avoid

You might have gotten a lot of crap for Christmas, but there are some things you just don’t regift:

  • Hygiene products, like the back shaver you got from Aunt Mable, won’t be warmly received by anyone. Just keep it.
  • One-of-a-kind gifts like signed items and handmade things should stay with you.
  • If you have to dust it off, you can’t regift it.

Don’t Make It a Habit

Regifting should only be done if you’re caught between a rock and a hard place. Maybe you’ve been busy, or money was tight this year, and you happen to be fatally allergic to those two pounds of peanut brittle your cousin gave you. That’s understandable. But if you’re in a position where you can buy or make a better gift, do it. Where’s your holiday spirit?

Regifts Can Be Funny

Some people throw parties specifically to regift things to each other. In that case, throw out all of the rules above and just have fun. Do you know someone with an embarrassing gift memory? I have a friend whose mother once forgot her birthday and gave her the following things at the last minute: peach juice, chocolate milk, a pen and an old calendar. This year I ‘regifted’ these very items to her in remembrance of that hilarious event. Well, it was hilarious to me.

Do you have any funny regifting stories? The more embarrassing, the better!
