12 Easy Spring Cleaning Tips & Frugal Ways to Organize the House

I can’t wait to start spring cleaning. I’m ready to rid myself of clutter and organize the house! Are you with me? Out with the stale air and in with the new – follow these 12 cleaning house tips for easy and frugal ways to get the job…or jobs done!

#1 – Make a To-Do List – Having a list to refer to makes me feel…less flustered. It helps to manage time and makes me feel more accomplished as I check off a completed task.

#2 – One Job at a Time – My most logical tips for cleaning the house are: ONE room or closet at a time, and begin with the room you’re dreading the most. The remaining rooms seem like nothing!

#3 – Less Is More – A lot of household cleaning items can be harmful to inhale as well dry out your skin. For frugal and healthy cleaning, use hot/warm water with some baking soda and lemon for a fresh smell – this solution is great for most surfaces like floors, appliances and more.

#4 – Closets – Haul out shoeboxes and hang a shoe rack in the closet. Sort through the shoes and clothes you no longer wear and put them aside. Only hang up the current season of clothes and store the rest in sealable containers.

#5 – Have a Garage Sale – Sell items set aside from step #4. Go through the rest of the house for items not used to de-clutter while making some cash. Donate whatever’s left.

#6 – Organizational Units – Pick up an organizational unit with doors. Choose a nice finish that adds to the decor of your home and use this unit to store away things that take up space like blankets and throws, board games, magazines, books, movies and more.

#7 – Kitchen Organization – Cooking takes steps and procedures, so organize your kitchen according to tasks and save time! For example, put all your cutting boards, graters and peelers into one area for prep; pots, pans and grills for cooking, and so on.

#8 – Hooks – Out of all 12 easy spring cleaning tips, this is my favourite. Secure adhesive or screw-in hooks to the backs of doors. Utilize this vertical space for towels, robes, jackets, etc. to create more room in pantries and closets…leading to more de-cluttering!

#9 – Scuff Marks – Remove scuff marks from boots or furniture with an eraser! Place felt protectors on furniture legs to avoid future scuffs.

#10 – Carpet Stains – For carpet cleaning house tips: use a white cloth with water and soap to remove dry stains. For greasy stains, leave baking soda on it overnight and vacuum.

#11 – Drapes & Curtains – They’re culprits for collecting dust and creating that stale-air scent. If your curtains are machine washable, put them through a gentle cycle. If not, vacuum them with the extendable brush-nozzle.

#12 – Cobwebs – Don’t stand on a wobbly chair! Tie a damp cloth around the feathered end of your duster to easily reach cobwebs.

When you’re all done, grab a glass of bubbly, light some scented candles around the tub, and enjoy a long hot soak to ease your muscles.
