Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Diaries – Oh My! Costumes for Vampire Lovers

Ever since Twilight made vampires cool again (although we all know it was really Buffy), costume manufacturers have stepped up their game. Say, “So long!” to those bulky, uncomfortable fang mouthpieces. It’s never been easier – or sexier – to go vamp.

I began this post with the intention of providing some cool vampire costumes and makeup tips, but then I started finding costumes that are perfect for True Blood, Vampire Diaries and Twilight. Allons-y!

Twilight: Craving Cullen?

A foolproof Edward Cullen costume: throw on this Love At First Bite Adult Wig ($14.99 USD, 10% off with BuyCostumes coupon), plump your eyebrows and cover all exposed skin in sparkly glitter (that last part will seal the deal). Don’t forget that grey pea coat. Edward’s bouffant is all yours.

Tip: Skip the fangs. Twilight vamps have sharp teeth coated with venom. Yum.

Sorry, girls. Unless you throw on a fur poncho and an out-of-control curly red wig to be Victoria, there aren’t a lot of costume options for you. Then again, you could give yourself bland hair, bland clothes and chew on your lip a lot. Instant Bella!

 

True Blood: Sookie/Jessica/Arlene Costume

Vampire Diaries: Katherine

Extra Tips

Fangs

Nowadays, you can buy small fangs that slip onto your canine teeth (without harming your teeth and dental work), making wearing fangs way more comfortable. You’ll actually be able to talk without slobbering all over yourself! Way more vamp chic, if you ask me.

Tip: Vampires are rarely messy, so tone down the fake blood.

Makeup

Avoid cheeseball makeup. To look dark and mysterious, you need to go more subtle than Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams. Make your skin just a few shades paler than your natural complexion with foundation from your local drugstore instead of pasty white with costume makeup. Make sure you cover up any blemishes and redness with concealer that’s slightly lighter than the foundation. Don’t forget to cover up your freckles, too — vamps don’t get much sun, even in Forks.

Give your lips a slightly purple hue and use browny-purple powder just under your cheekbones and on your lids (wet a fine brush and line your eyes with this same shade) to give a slight gaunt look.
