Planning a Wedding on a Budget Part 10/10 – Planning the Honeymoon

[ 3 ] June 3, 2010 |

If you missed my post about frugal wedding favours, see it here: Planning a Wedding on a Budget Part 9/10 – Wedding Favours.

honeymooners

After all the planning and stressing, it’s great to get away together. I know I’m looking forward to it! Whether you want to go somewhere hot and exotic or stay local, there are ways for you to plan your honeymoon on a small budget.

Discounted Honeymoon Packages

One thing you must do if booking a honeymoon away is shop around to compare prices. If you like, use exclusive Luxury Link Canada coupons and enjoy a discount of $110 off your first purchase. Luxury Link has amazing vacation packages including honeymoon ones that you can bid on! That’s right, if no one places a higher bid than you, you can possibly get a luxury honeymoon vacation on the cheap!

Here are some more ways to save money on your honeymoon:

Book All-inclusive – Pay one price that includes flight, transfer, hotel, meals & drinks. This way there aren’t any surprises in your budget (just give yourself some spending room for souvenir & shopping).

Wait a Little While – If you’re not in a rush to get away, let the vacation price determine your honeymoon date. You can get your dream package at your budgeted price if you’re flexible on the date.

Last-Minute Deals – When you book last-minute deals, you’ll pay an insanely low price as airlines or travel agencies want the ticket sold.

Cut Travel Costs – Get a flight that lands at a smaller airport or one located a bit farther from the city’s central. One that’s a little out of the way can often mean cheaper airfare. Make sure to factor in cab fare; some hotels offer free shuttles, but for major airports only, so do your math!

Ask Questions – Sometimes hotels offer special-rate honeymoon packages, so be sure to ask the clerk.

Free Honeymoon?

Yes, it is possible! Have you ever heard of www.ehoneymoonregistry.com? It’s Canada’s original honeymoon fund registry site. It works just like a wedding registry, but instead of household items, guests can:

  • Put money towards your desired honeymoon package
  • Purchase special treatments for your honeymoon like a couples massage or breakfast in bed

Register here for free and begin creating your dream honeymoon. When you’re done, a special web page for you and hubby-to-be is created that you can direct your guests to. It’s so easy and, in my eyes, so brilliant!

Stay Local & Use Viator coupons

Do you know that I’ve lived in Canada my whole life (27 years!) but still haven’t really seen it? If you’re in the same boat, then there are ways for you to see more for less. We offer exclusive coupons for adventure and romantic tours throughout Canada, as well as discounts for hotel stays – perfect for a honeymoon on a small budget!

  • Orbitz Canada coupons10% off hotel stays in Niagara Falls, ON; Sun Peaks, BC; Banff, AB & other Canadian cities
  • Viator Canada coupons7% off tours including private helicopter, royal carriage, island cruises & wildlife

Make sure you bring your camera as you’ll see some amazing things on tours with Viator!

Other Ways to Save

As your wedding approaches, keep an eye on foreign currency. Presently, the Canadian dollar isn’t too far behind the US one, so purchasing money now is a good idea. A better idea would be to open a US account (if you’ll be honeymooning there, of course) a few months before the wedding. Here’s why:

  • US account holders often get “special rates” when purchasing US cash
  • When the rate’s low, purchase cash & deposit to your US account (which often offers interest!)
  • Come honeymoon time, you don’t have to dish out tons of cash to purchase foreign currency, just make a withdrawal

When booking your hotel room, opt for one with a kitchen in it so you spend less on dining out all the time. Visit local markets for fresh foods and cook yourself a deliciously frugal meal.
